Rehberg Bills Tax Payers

Posted Aug 11, 2010

Congressman Rehberg is hoping to make a lot of money off of taxpayers through his lawsuit against the City of Billings and Billings firefighters. At the same time his campaign is billing those same taxpayers for his so-called listening sessions taking place across the state.

These “listening sessions” are nothing more than taxpayer-funded partisan campaign events.  He has several staff members, all on the government payroll, traveling with him and organizing these events.  His travel costs are also being paid for by taxpayers.

In Helena recently, the Congressman used robocalls to bring out Republicans to his event—a session that was little more than an attempt to persuade Tea Party members and others to support his candidacy.

While talking of reducing the deficit, Denny Rehberg continues to waste taxpayer dollars.  I call on Rehberg to submit legislation to cut expense funding for Congressmen by 20 percent and to reduce Congressional pay by the same amount.  Rehberg is currently spending nearly a million dollars every year for his office expenses, and is making a handsome salary of $174,000.

Rehberg, who is the 11th wealthiest member of Congress, has a net worth of $63 million and has hundreds of thousands of dollars in his campaign account.  Nevertheless, he continues to draw on taxpayers to pay for his re-election campaign.
