The Economy and Jobs
Every day, more hardworking Montanans are losing their jobs, more proud homeowners are threatened with foreclosure, and more ordinary families struggle with putting food on the table or buying school supplies for their kids. These days hard work and dedication aren’t enough to keep Montana families secure in their jobs and homes.
It would be easy to turn our anger and frustration on those whose greed and negligence brought us to the brink of disaster – but now is not the time for judgment; that’s what Election Day is for.. Now is the time for all of us to pull together face these challenges.
With challenges come opportunities. And with opportunities come change. We cannot afford not to change. If we listen to those who advocate for more of the same reckless and short-sighted policies that caused the economic meltdown in the first place, our economy may never fully bounce back. This troubled economy gives us a chance to change the skewed priorities that got us into this mess and create a prosperous Montana where hard work is rewarded with good pay and the quality of life we Montanans deserve.
- We have an opportunity to rebuild our aging infrastructure and make Montana a safer place for its residents and a better place for its businesses, all while creating jobs and stimulating the economy.
- We have an opportunity to invest in quality health care that is affordable and available to all Montanans. Whether we live in Baker or Bozeman, we all need access to affordable quality health care.
- We have an opportunity to wisely and safely take advantage of our traditional energy resources while investing in alternative and green energy that will bring us more jobs and protect our land and our rivers for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.
- We have an opportunity to fully fund education and train teachers so that our children get the best education possible.
We have an opportunity to once again make Montana a thriving prosperous place where neither we nor our children will have to leave home to look for jobs in other states.
Unfortunately, Denny Rehberg doesn’t get this.
He still keeps beating the same old drum that marched our economy to the brink of disaster. He still spouts the same kind of reasoning that saw him and his Wall Street backers grow richer while Main Street Montanans watched their savings dwindle, their jobs vanish, and their homes end up in the hands of the same bankers who caused this mess in the first place. He just can’t seem to help himself from looking out for the financial interests of his real constituency: Wall Street.
These opportunities have the power to strengthen and diversify our economy and create jobs, not just in the fast-growing areas, but throughout the entire state, including rural Montana and Indian Country. Together, we can once again make Montana the place that has always filled us with so much pride. We’re Montanans - we don’t need and we don’t want handouts – we just want the opportunity to help ourselves.
